The weekend before last, Ryan's oldest little sister Brenna came to visit us and we had lots of fun! She's great.
We ended up having a pretty relaxing day on Saturday with her, we went to brunch at the Woodinville Cafe (which has some of the best hollandaise sauce EVER and therefore some of the best eggs Benny), went to the dog park with Chewie, and watched Where the Wild Things Are.
Sunday we went to Deception pass with Brenna, Chewie, Nate, and Geoff. We had a superb time, I mean, really it was gorgeous. There are more photos in my album on Facebook, but here are some of the best.
(Above photo credit to Brenna - great!)
The weather was perfect, and the walk along the north beach was lovely.
Ryan and Nate ended up finding two large pieces of drift wood that sat on the beach making an x shape, and they pushed the top tree further up to make a teeter-totter.
Brenna and I decided we needed to try this, and were seriously cracking up the whole time. Okay, I was cracking up at least.
Oh man, it was so funny. I went up too high and bounced at the top one time and ended up falling off into the sand, which just made it that much funnier.
After that, everyone decided that playing baseball with rocks and sticks was the best plan, so we did.
Brenna is the Captain, Nate is the Green Nina, and Ryan Shoots and Scores.
We had a wonderful time, even Chewie loved it, and I plan on going back again. It's a nice trip and not too far of a drive. Only one tank of gas, too.
Now, if only Max, our cat, were in the picture above it would be a "family photo." Haha!
In other news, Ryan and I are on our
Ryan and I both wanted a great workout, to learn real self defense, and how to fight. This style is Japanese, and it is full contact bare knuckle sparring. It's exciting and a little scary at the same time. I already have bruises, and many of the black-belts in class have talked about their injuries (broken toes, knee, wrist, etc). I've never been hit by anyone on purpose before, so it's a little intimidating getting punched in the chest by a black-belt who's actually only punching at probably 20% of what they could (maybe less). Yikes. Well, it's been a lot of fun, too, and pushed me way beyond my usual physical boundaries in terms of difficulty and comfort.
I'm excited to see what happens next, and I definitely have a busy month ahead. This weekend we start rehearsals for a play project I'm working on (info here). The play is Mariamne by James Compton, and it's about Herod the Great, you know, the baby killer, and his wife Mariamne. I'll be one of the chorus members, Virtue (very small part). This is a super rad project. Seriously. We're rehearsing Sunday - Thursday of this next week and then performing Friday and Saturday June 11th and 12th @ 7:30pm, and that's it! It is definitely a unique opportunity, and it will be so fun to see it come together in such a short period of time.
Then, on June 24th, I'm flying down to California to do the Relay for Life with my family (it's their third year). We've all known many people who have cancer (my grandpa currently has prostate cancer, and will be walking with us) or have passed from it, so this is becoming a pretty important event for my family, and I'm happy to be able to participate this year. If you have the means to donate to my fundraiser, please do so at the Relay for Life website link to my team (also in a box on my Facebook profile). Every bit helps, and I'd really like to reach my modest goal of $100. Thanks in advance, it means a lot to me and my family especially.
That's all for me tonight, I'm off to enjoy some SIFF movies tonight with my good friend Sarah Karnes, and after that hopefully get some rest this weekend before another insane rehearsal schedule. I do it because I love it.
How could you not love that face? :)

Sounds great, Jenni! I hope I can come to the Saturday night performance of that show--sounds really good. :)
That would be fun! It's going to be interesting, that's for sure. :D
I saw you two standing in line for SIFF. I was seeing if the library was open (lame, closing at 6 on Friday) and remembered reading you were going. I looked over as I passed and there stood my two green-coated friends standing in the Kirkland drizzle. Hope you had a fun time!
cuuuuute puppy!
Marf, we did have fun, although our feet were soaked by the time we got inside. We should've asked if you wanted to come too. Come next year if you're available? :)
I think he's cute too ReBekha! :D
